Abnormal Transformer Sound Causes and Handling Methods

Transformer on a power supply, there is a buzzing sound, which is mainly the role of high voltage magnetic flux. In normal operation, the sound of the transformer is uniform. When there is other noise, it should be carefully find the reason for processing.

1. Transformer sound is larger than usual and uniform, which may be caused by the following reasons:

(1) Overvoltage occurs in the power grid. When single phase grounding or resonant overvoltage occurs in the power grid, the sound of the transformer will increase. When this situation occurs, it can be combined with the instructions of the voltmeter for comprehensive judgment.

(2) when the transformer is overloaded, it will make the transformer emit a heavy “buzzing” sound. If the transformer load is found to exceed the allowable normal overload value, the transformer load should be reduced according to the provisions of the field regulations.

Solution: analyze the cause, make a good record, strengthen monitoring, as soon as possible to restore the normal operation of the transformer. If it is caused by overload, it shall be handled in accordance with the principle of overload.

2. Transformer noise

It could be the vibration caused by some loose parts on the transformer. If accompanied by significantly increased transformer sound, and no obvious abnormality of current and voltage, it may be caused by the loosening of internal clamps or screws pressing the iron core, so that the vibration of the silicon steel sheet increases.

Solution: if it does not affect the operation of the transformer, it can be temporarily not processed, do a good job of records, strengthen monitoring, report scheduling and relevant leaders to apply for power outage inspection and processing.

3. Transformer discharge sound

The transformer has a “cracking” discharge sound. If there is blue corona or spark near the transformer bushing at night or under rainy weather, it indicates that the porcelain parts are seriously polluted or the equipment wire card is not in good contact. If the transformer internal discharge is ungrounded component electrostatic discharge or coil turn to turn discharge, or due to tap switch contact bad discharge.

Solution: at this time should report dispatching and relevant leaders, apply for transformer outage inspection processing.

4. Transformer cracking sound

If the insulation inside or on the surface of the transformer breaks down, stop the transformer immediately for inspection.

5. Transformer water boiling sound

The transformer has the sound of water boiling, and the temperature changes sharply, and the oil level rises, it should be judged as the serious overheating caused by short circuit of the transformer winding or poor contact of the tap switch, and the transformer should be stopped immediately for inspection.
