What are the Possible Consequences of Over-excitation of the Transformer? How to Avoid It?

When the transformer voltage exceeds 10% of the rated voltage, the transformer core will be saturated and the iron loss will increase. Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) increases eddy current loss of metal components such as case, resulting in transformer overheating, insulation aging, affecting transformer life and even burning transformer.

Ways to avoid:

(1) Prevent the voltage from running too high. Generally, the higher the voltage, the more serious the overexcitation, the shorter the allowable running time.

(2) Add over-excitation protection: according to the transformer characteristic curve and different allowable over-excitation multiple, send alarm signals or remove the transformer.
