What are the Reasons Why Current Transformers often Burn Out? What are the Measures to Prevent Current Transformer from Burning?

Reasons Why Current Transformers often Burn Out:
1.The current transformer is too long in service life, and the insulation is aging, and partial breakdown or discharge occurs, resulting in overvoltage, which makes the current transformer heat and burn out.
2.The user overload operation time is long, so that the current transformer heat and burn out.
3.The current transformer is open for two times, which generates high voltage and makes the current transformer burn out.
4.The contact surface of the primary connection aluminum bar of the current transformer is overoxidized and the contact resistance is too large, which causes the current transformer to burn out.

Measures to prevent current transformer from burning:

1.Strengthen the high-voltage insulation test of users’ high-voltage metering current transformers and lightning arresters, find out the insulation aging degree of metering current transformers and lightning arresters as soon as possible, and replace them in time to avoid power failure caused by metering current transformers burning out.
2.Install watchdog circuit breaker to avoid branch fault affecting the power failure of the whole feeder, especially to ensure that branch circuit breaker can reliably trip when the power side is single-phase grounded.
3.Connect the metering current transformer behind the circuit breaker to ensure that the circuit breaker and lightning arrester operate correctly to remove the fault when the metering current transformer fails.
4.Clean the user’s equipment regularly to reduce pollution flashover and avoid insulation reduction.
